My sweet Ollie.

Before we got a kitten, several people told me about how their kitties changed their lives for the better.  I now completely understand what they were saying.  Ollie is the sweetest little thing, and makes my day-to-day life (while Derek is at work) so much more exhilarating.  Such a great little guy.  He is growing up so much though…I just want him to be teensy forever.

We are starting to make plans for the holidays.  Any suggestions on what we should do with Ollie while we are gone?  We don’t have many friends that will be in town, or who aren’t allergic, and while we could take him with us wherever we go, travelling with cats isn’t exactly the easiest thing ever.  Any suggestions?

The perfect weekend.

Derek and I went to Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs for the weekend to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary.  Derek had been working like crazy for the last few weeks, so a relaxing weekend was exactly what he (we) needed, and it was so great to enjoy it together.  We laid by the pool for most of the time, but we also treated ourselves to a suuuper relaxing couples massage…oh man was that ever amazing.  We will definitely be back to Ace – it was very much our style.  Everything’s decorated with a vintage, hand-picked flare, and nothing is without character.  Mmm.mmm.mmm.  Love it.

Also, we started a new tradition!  Since not only did Derek propose to me with photobooth strips, but we also had a photobooth at our wedding, we are going to take a photos in a photobooth each year on our anniversary!  Lucky for us, the Ace Hotel has an old black and white photobooth in their lobby.  Meant to be.

I’m pretty sure I’m more in love with Derek now than I ever have been before.  He’s the best I could ask for.

Life in Los Angeles

It has been almost a month since Derek and I moved south to Los Angeles from San Francisco.  While it was really sad to leave, we had so many supportive friends who were encouraging us to follow the direction we felt our lives were taking us, so we left feeling loved and excited for the new adventure ahead.  Putting our new home together has been quite a process, and we aren’t finished yet still!  I’d say we’re about 75% there, but still have a little ways to go…

So I am posting some photos of the place before (taken when we first viewed the apartment), and I have a few shots of it since we moved in, but keep in mind that when these were taken, half of what we own was still in boxes.  :)  Enjoy…

(notice the wall color.  we painted since this…it’s nice, we just felt like it didn’t make the place feel bright and open.)

Now here are the photos after we moved in (but taken about a month ago…)

(notice my yellow school chairs I got for FREE off craigslist!  and we painted our table light minty green!)

I will post more photos of our house soon.  I have a few more shelves to hang, which I am hoping is going to happen this weekend.   The little stuff that doesn’t have a place yet is starting to drive me completely crazy.  I’m trying to get it all done before next weekend when the fam comes into town (fam-in-law)!  :)  Then the following weekend, we are off to Savannah, GA for my beautiful little sister’s college graduation!  So proud of her.

I have tons of other stuff to post, but we really need to hook up internet at our apartment.  Hahah…we are living in the year 1995 over here…eek.

Until next time…

XO

Photographic Inspiration

I am beginning to plan out a new photoshoot with a some friends!  It’s been wayyyy too long, and I need to begin being more intentional about shooting on a regular basis for my portfolio.  Here are some images that I find inspiring from a few local photographers (Ericka McConnell, Stephanie Rausser, and Thayer Gowdy).  The date is set for March 28th and all parties are PUMPED.  Here are the beautiful photos by the lovely ladies mentioned above…

It’s been almost 3 years since Tanzania.

I was going through some photos today and started looking at my Tanzania photos.  Ahhhh, how amazing that trip was.  Derek and I have been dreaming of returning.  Doesn’t look like it’s in the cards for this year though…anyways, enjoy the photos!

Today Wilder and I had a major @disneyland / @californiaadventurepark adventure. We got there before the park opened, and stayed until almost 7pm (super long day for us, since we are pass holders)! The parks weren't even packed, we waited no longer than 15 min for anything, and did as much as we could pack in. At the end of the day, Wilder still didn't want to leave, so I promised another visit soon. Taking a kid this young can be a challenge, but to me it's the most magical age so far and it just gets better every time. He loves it, and plays hard, excited around every little turn. We had the most fun today, I feel so happy. We said goodnight to each other with a huge, super tight hug and big kiss. My sweet boy. 🎈✨ #wildercobalt #californiaadventure #disneyland Getting to spend the week with my family was so lovely, despite that pesky hurricane canceling all of our plans. The quality time we got together was precious. •
PLUS...happy birthday sweet Jude! You are 3! 🎈🎈🎈

#judeemerson #wildercobalt ☔️S P L A S H💦 #irmageddon #wildercobalt He's ready. ⛈🌀💛#irmageddon #wildercobalt #florida We flew to Florida yesterday just in time. Granted, our original plans didn't include a hurricane, so that's too bad, but we are getting in some fun family time anyway. We got to see the moon in the sky on our way out of LA yesterday - I love this color palette. 💛 Today, I dropped my sweet boy off at his *first day of preschool*! He was so ready. He burst through the gate, running in, kicked his shoes off, and started playing with all the trucks immediately. I could barely get him to look up at me to give me a kiss goodbye. Then as I was leaving, he yelled out, "have a good day at work, momma!" 💔😍😭 He's gonna do so great. #wildercobalt #firstdayofpreschool #fbf to our vacation a couple weeks ago. Today Wilder stopped mid-bite at dinner, gasped, and said "where did my friends go?!" I asked him their names, and he said "Elsa and Faye!" I reminded him they are his cousins, and he just looked down sad and said, "yeah. I miss my cousins. I miss #beanheadfarm." 😔 So darn sweet. Wish we lived closer, @lyraburch & @elliotb13! Some amazing family memories were made this past week! Thankful we were able to take the time away! ❤️ #wildercobalt #beanheadfarm We just got back to LA from a truly rejuvenating family vacation. Off the grid (mostly), living in nature and spending every moment with some dearly loved family. Wilder got to experience camping in a tent for the very first time, and spent day in and day out chasing his big cousin Elsa around copying her every move. We couldn't have asked for a better week away! And we topped it off with this plane ride off the island before getting back to the mainland to head on home. #wildercobalt #beanheadfarm Wilder and @_derekhansen built a "farm" on the beach yesterday (with Elsa, who was much more helpful than Wilder). Wilder was mostly a "little pig" or "little cow". He begged to go in the freezing water, and we cooked out our dinner on the beach. A perfect evening with our family! #wildercobalt
