A new addition to the family

Last week Derek and I finally got our sweet little kitten. And oh boy is he something! He is 12 weeks old and teensy. Super playful and cuddly and so well behaved. We think he likes our home so far. :) However, we don’t have a name for him yet!! Boy names are so difficult it seems. Sigh. It’ll come to us…

Creative indulgences

today I went to Anthropologie (my favorite store in the universe), because for my birthday they sent me a 15% off card! so I put it to great use. really I didn’t need anything there, but since it’s my birthday, I bought a gorgeous set of wooden coasters for our living room. I spent almost 2 hours in there though, looking at everything and getting super inspired, like I usually do when I go in there. here are some fun photos I took while inside.

Christmas decor!

this year is my first year to actually be able to decorate my home for Christmas. in the past I have always had roommates with their own style or decorations, so I haven’t gotten to truly make it my own until this year! we finally got our home to a put together enough point where we wanted to have a housewarming/Christmas celebration. we packed 20-25 people into our apartment over the course of the night and had a wonderful time. it was suuuuuper cozy and warm. I made cranberry scones, chocolate chip cookies and apple cider (in my crock pot!). a delightful time indeed.

for our decorations I decorated our tree with some mini white frosted globe lights, and some sweet lace snowflake ornaments. very simple! I picked up some feux cranberry branches from Michael’s to put in some of my collected bottles on our mantle, and I hand needle felted a little garland for the mantle, and strung it on some leftover ribbon from our wedding. I also used a lot of candles that were leftover from our wedding to warm the place up. floating candles in some beautiful blue glass bowls, and I put some fresh cranberries in the water to float around the candle. cranberries are sooooo beautiful, I’ve had so much fun using them! next year I think I’ll make actual cranberry garland, I just didn’t have the shalack or whatever so they don’t rot. :)

An amazing location…

This gorgeous wall and door on 19th street at Valencia. Sooo amazing. I wanna photograph someone here… I wish my sister lived closer. She would be a perfect candidate.

Treats!

Today I decided to whip up a couple of snacks for the house! First, roasted some almonds I had around in the oven with olive oil, garlic, and cayenne pepper. They’re alright….not the best thing I’ve ever made. I’m never too crazy about my almond roasting results. Any suggestions, anyone?

Secondly, I made some delicious granola. I bought a bunch of dry, old fashioned oatmeal for $1.50 yesterday to try my hand at this. It was so easy. I’m definitely going to make my own granola from now on. All I did was mix 4 cups of oatmeal, 1 table spoon of cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt, then in a separate bowl I mixed the wet stuff: 1/2 cup of honey, 1/4 cup of canola oil, & 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Then I poured the wet onto the dry, mixed it together, put it on a baking sheet for 10 minutes, then flipped it and baked it for another 10, then I mixed in some dried fruit! And voilΓ !! Delicious granola. Next time I’ll get more creative with flavors..this was just a trial. Haha.

#fbf to our vacation a couple weeks ago. Today Wilder stopped mid-bite at dinner, gasped, and said "where did my friends go?!" I asked him their names, and he said "Elsa and Faye!" I reminded him they are his cousins, and he just looked down sad and said, "yeah. I miss my cousins. I miss #beanheadfarm." πŸ˜” So darn sweet. Wish we lived closer, @lyraburch & @elliotb13! Some amazing family memories were made this past week! Thankful we were able to take the time away! ❀️ #wildercobalt #beanheadfarm We just got back to LA from a truly rejuvenating family vacation. Off the grid (mostly), living in nature and spending every moment with some dearly loved family. Wilder got to experience camping in a tent for the very first time, and spent day in and day out chasing his big cousin Elsa around copying her every move. We couldn't have asked for a better week away! And we topped it off with this plane ride off the island before getting back to the mainland to head on home. #wildercobalt #beanheadfarm Wilder and @_derekhansen built a "farm" on the beach yesterday (with Elsa, who was much more helpful than Wilder). Wilder was mostly a "little pig" or "little cow". He begged to go in the freezing water, and we cooked out our dinner on the beach. A perfect evening with our family! #wildercobalt This boy just finished his 2nd (& final) week of swim classes (yesterday). I wouldn't say he "can swim", but I would say that he is more confident, and loves the water even MORE than before (if that's possible???)...
He's a little 🐟! #wildercobalt When we woke up this morning, our neighbor was just getting home with some fresh donuts. Wilder said through the screen door, "good morning Mr. Joel!" And he offered Wilder a donut, to which he promptly said "I LOVE TREATS! I LOVE DONUTS!" So so nice of Mr. Joel to share his Saturday morning treat with us! #wildercobalt [In case you don't look at IG stories...this. πŸ‘†πŸ»]
Wilder says "my" instead of "I" when speaking about himself, and it's the cutest thing. I never want to forget some of the stuff he says right now. The way he says "momma, what's that?" about EVERY LITTLE THING to learn new words is heart melting. πŸ’™πŸ¦ #wildercobalt For all the stressful momma-days I have, moments like this make up for it all. Happy 4th of July weekend from this little munchkin! (Please just pretend that his shirt has red stripes instead of orange, & I will have achieved the perfect all-American boy photo...at our favorite Swedish store. πŸ˜‚πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ/πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺ ) #wildercobalt Oh boy oh boy did we have a ROUGH afternoon trying to achieve a nap. We were both exhausted, and it resulted in a less than lovely exchange between us. I'm ashamed of how I was acting, and I can tell he was too. The moment I said, "want to take your nap with me?", he lit up and ran into my bed, Dina in tow. He fell right to sleep and so did I. An hour later I woke up, and he's still snoozing, so peaceful. There have been a lot of days lately that I feel so out of touch with him, and it breaks my heart. This kid is my everything, and to spend an hour+ of my afternoon screaming "STAY IN YOUR BED" at him just doesn't seem right. I'm praying for wisdom and understanding on how to keep my strong and beautiful connection with my boy as he grows and matures. For now though, I'm basking in the unproductive naptime and getting my snuggles in. #wildercobalt #momtalk Happy Father's Day to my wonderful husband and Wilder's amazing dad, @_derekhansen. I love being a parent with you! .
